Red, White And BBQ With A Sweet Tulip

Woohoo! It's a twofer post today! I have a finish AND a WIP to share with you all. This small finish means that my unofficial yearly goal of 12 projects has been now met, which equals to one per month. I have a couple of projects lined up for the next month or so, so I am hoping I can hit 21 finishes this year. While I only have one Bin O'Shame finish this year so far, that's better than none, yea?

I am also quite happy that I managed to procure this as a kit and for around five dollars. Gotta love a sale! :)

At any rate, here is the finish for today:

Design: Sweet Tulip

Designer: Jeannette Douglas of Jeannette Douglas Designs

Fabric Used: 28 count Chai Tea jobelan by Wichelt

Fibers Used: Crescent Colours cotton floss in Gingersnap, Nutmeggie, Manor Red and Wild Berries. The Gentle Art Sampler Threads in Brick Path, Dried Thyme, Espresso Bean, Portabella and Summer Shower.

Stitchers' Notes: Began Monday, July 23, 2014. Finished Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Kit purchased secondhand. Substituted included fabric for the 28 count Chai Tea jobelan by Wichelt . Stitched one floss thread over two fabric threads.

My latest WIP is more patriotic than the original design. I dug through my Leaflet Silo and found this small design, which I dearly love. I loved the original as it was, however, I decided to tweak it just a wee bit so that it displayed the colors of July in a patriotic manner. While it was not completed in time for the 4th of July, it will be early for next year, so that's nice. :)

Well, at any rate, time to WIP it! :D

Design: hd-42: July (Red, White, and BBQ): a year in chalk

Designer: Cathy Habermann of Hands on Designs

Fabric Used: 30 count Ink Spot Black by R and R Reproductions (discontinued)

Fibers Used: The Gentle Art Sampler Threads in Chalk, Geranium, and Presidential Blue.

Stitcher's Notes: Substituted the called for 30 count Weeks Dye Works Gunmetal for the Ink Spot Black by R and R Reproductions in stash. Added  The Gentle Art Sampler Threads in Presidential Blue to make it a patriotic styled project.

Time to bolt for the door to clean up my area and see if I cannot put the spurs to this latest WIP. I hope everyone is having a great week.

Happy stitching!

59 Down, One To Go

I figured that since it is around 2 weeks until my next overnight shift, I had better get moving on this project. I didn't want to be looking at a project that had been hanging around for a month. This is how the Bin O'Shame came into being. So, I got this one out and just hammered it out until it was finished. I am seriously considering starting the January one, Let It Snow, but I am not sure as of yet. There are two other projects competing for my attention. So, as always, we will see who wins the battle for my attention and my needle. :)

Design: hd-30 February: a year in chalk

Designer: Cathy Habermann of Hands on Designs

Fabric Used: 30 count Ink Spot Black by R and R Reproductions (possibly discontinued)

Fibers Used: The Gentle Art Sampler Threads in Chalk. Crescent Colours  cotton floss in Prickly Pear.

Accouterments: Toho 11/0 glass seed beads in 1951-126 Rainbow Fuchsia

Stitcher's Notes: Substituted Crescent Colours  cotton floss in Prickly Pear for the called for Tea Rose. Substituted the called for 30 count Weeks Dye Works Gunmetal for the Ink Spot Black by R and R Reproductions in stash.

Began Thursday, November 19, 2015:

Finished Saturday, December 5, 2015:

I am actually wanting to see if I cannot squeeze in one last project. If I can, this will mean 60 finishes for the year. This total includes 35 finished up from the Bin O'Shame and 25 fresh from scratch starts. The previous record year for finishing was in 2010 with 49. Having 60 would beat that total by 11. Not too shabby if I say so myself. :)

Well, I had best be off. I need to clean up my area and find something else to get into. I hope everyone is having a great weekend! :)

November 2015 Overnight Shift Post

It's that happy time again for me aka: the overnight shift weekend. The team I work on rotates weekends so no one is stuck, and I like it as it affords me the opportunity to have an excuse to not leave the house for an entire weekend. Which I am perfectly ok with :D! It's as if I have a built in hermit weekend every month, which is cool.

This month's overnight shift weekend project is another one fromCathy Habermann of Hands on Designs. I really do love these as they are quick and easy projects that you can enjoy stitching. I am also a big fan of tweaking the colors to what I have already in stash, so there is that.

Well, enough of my blathering, on with the show!

I am probably going to add some beads to this project, however, I do not have any that are suitable. I find it utterly amazing that after 20+ years stitching, I can have every bead and/or floss under the sun, except for that one. Ah, well. It keeps business alive and well, I suppose! :)

I must be off. I need to take care of some chores before I get to get comfortable in my chair. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Overnight Shift Finish

About once a month, I am scheduled to work the overnight shift of Friday and Saturday nights. Basically, whoever is on duty is just minding the store and making sure things don'e burst into flames. :)

As consequence, as my sleep schedule gets thrown off, I can't stitch on anything overly complicated. I chose this latest finish for its' simplicity and it's coloring. I love the way it turned out. Me being me, there were color changes involved!

At any rate, here is the latest non Bin O'Shame finish. I need to get the rest of the year kitted up, so that I may have these on reserve for when I do the overnight bunks.

Design: hd-41 June: a year in chalk

Designer: Cathy Habermann of Hands on Designs

Fabric Used: 30 count 18th Century Blackbird by R &R Reproductions (possibly discontinued)

Fibers Used: The Gentle Art Sampler Threads in Chalk and Tutti Frutti

Stitcher's Notes: Substituted Tutti Frutti for the called for Wood Rose. Substituted the called for 30 count Weeks Dye Works Gunmetal for the 18th Century Blackbird in stash.

Well, I had best be off. Time to make Sunday dinner. This week is lemon and herb chicken with broccoli. Hope everyone has a great week! :)
