Two Finishes For WIP Wednesday!
Two happy dances to share with you all today. I could not decide on what to put up above the main body of the design I was stitching, nor could I find an appropriate font, this baby is finished as of now. I may go back at a later time and stitch a saying that is appropriate for the design, but as I have been waffling on whether to do it or not, I am keeping this as is. I truly enjoyed stitching this guy and I plan on stitching it several more times as the design is perfect for fall.
Here is finish number one:
Here is finish number one:
Designer: Marva Owen for Black Star Designs
Fibers Used: Crescent Colours cotton floss in Toasted Marshmallow. The Gentle Art Sampler Threads in Black Crow, Buttercrunch, Dried Thyme, Maple Syrup, Nutmeg, and Sarsaparilla.
Accouterments: Mill Hill beads in #03049 Rich Red
Stitchers' Notes: Began Friday, August 3, 2018. Finished Monday, August 20, 2018. Changed pumpkin from orange to white. Substituted Algerian eyelet stitches for Mill Hill beads in #03049 Rich Red seed beads. Please note that this chart is OOP and very hard to find. Please also note that this chart is not for sale/trade.
As of Wednesday, August 15, 2018:
Finished Monday, August 20, 2018:
Finish number two comes in the form of a Mill Hill kit that I purchased on a buy/sell group on Facebook. It was a bargain at $2.50, IMO. This was my first time using the included perforated paper. I am not sure that I like stitching on paper. The floss got caught in the corners an awful lot, which became annoying after a while.
Here is finish number two:
Fabric Used: 14 count Antique Brown perforated paper by Mill Hill
Accouterments: Mill Hill beads as called for in the kit.
Stitchers' Notes: Began Tuesday, August 21, 2018. Finished Wednesday, August 22, 2018. Left off beadwork at the top of the design.
Time for me to be off. I need to clean up my area and check on dinner. Hope everyone is having a great week. Happy stitching!

At any rate, here is what I have so far:

WIP Wednesday And A Change Of Seasons
At least stitching wise. I really wasn't 'into' stitching a whole lot this past few weeks. The air quality here has been absolutely horrible due to the wildfires and it has made it quite difficult to breathe, let alone get anything done. I am sending prayers and good vibes to the people and first responders who are having to deal with this disaster. As bad as my burden is, theirs is far greater.
This actually led me to the decision to stop stitching my latest project , and instead start stitching on fall related things. I have really had the itch here lately to stitch on fall and Halloween related stitchery. I have had this one in my stash for quite some time now and I decided to start it immediately.

A Slice Of Summer
Howdy all! Hope everyone is staying cool in this heat. Temps have been quite warm here, and are expected to rise during the end of the week. I am not ready to start stitching on fall/Halloween designs as of yet, so I am continuing with summer themed stitching.
This latest project is one that I have wanted to do for a very long time. It is discontinued as the frame is no longer being made, however, I do not let things like that stop me. I am sure I will find the appropriate finishing bits and bobs at some point and Bob's your uncle! Another actually finished finished! :D
At any rate, here is what is currently in the Q-Snaps:

First Finish Of 2018
Greetings, stitch fans! I hope everyone had a great holiday season. Mine was extra busy and jam packed as I am sure everyone else's was choc-a-block.
It has taken me almost the entire month of January, but I have my first finish of 2018. It is a small finish, but it is a finish nonetheless. I am very happy that I have decided that I am only going to finish 12 projects this year. At this rate, I will be lucky to get the 12 per year unofficial goal obtained!
Well, at any rate, here is the first finish of 2018!

Fibers Used: Anchor six strand embroidery floss in 02 and 103. Crescent Colours cotton floss in Caterpillar and Pink Champagne. The Gentle Art Sampler Threads in 0570 Bittersweet, 7013 Green Apple, and 0880 Punchberry.
Accouterments: Mill Hill Magnifica beads in #10001 Ice. White pom pom from Joann Fabrics and Crafts.
Stitchers' Notes: Substituted called for DMC for a conversion that I found many, many years ago. If I manage to remember where I found it, I will be happy to update this post in order to credit the stitcher that had the original piece. In the original conversion Cerise from Crescent Colours cotton floss in was used, however, I substituted this substitution for Pink Champagne.
Time for me to be off and away. I hope everyone is having a fantastic week. Happy stitching!

No Mas (No More)
I hope everyone had a good Christmas. DH and I drove to Las Vegas to visit with family and friends, so I had some stitching time. I managed to get Project 30 stitched up just in the nick of time. I doubt I will be able to get another finish under my belt before the new year, as I have managed to get sick over the holiday. Las Vegas does not have the best air quality :/.

The Most Beautiful Thing Christmas Eve Post
I have managed to make some headway on Project 30, as I am referring to it. It is yet another 'gray day' here and stitching on this fabric is slow going. I am hoping this is completed by no later than New Years' Eve. Fingers crossed!

I found this story online years ago, and every year for many years I've shared it here and on my SanMan Originals message board. I love this story for it imagery and its' message and I hope you do too. I am also dedicating this years' posting to Sandy and all of the denizens of the SMO Message Board. I truly do miss the 12 Days of Christmas on the board and all of the gift giving we all did.
The Most Beautiful Thing
Author unknown
The sides of the path were covered with white snow, but in the center, its whiteness was turned brown by the tramping of hundreds of hurrying feet. It was the day before Christmas. People rushed up and down the path carrying bundles, laughing and calling to each other.
Above the path, the long arms of an ancient tree reached up toward the sky. It swayed as strong winds grasped its branches and bent them toward the earth. Down below a haughty laugh sounded, and a lovely fir tree stretched its thick green branches, sending a fine spray of sparkling snow toward the ground.
"I should think," said the fir in a smug voice, "that you would try a little harder to stand still. Goodness knows you're ugly enough with the leaves you've already lost. If you move around anymore, you'll soon be quite bare."
"I know," answered the old tree. "Everything has put on its most beautiful clothes for the celebration of Christmas. Even from here I can see the decorations shining from each street corner, and yesterday some men came and put the loveliest lights on every tree along the path - except me, of course." He sighed softly, and a flake of snow melted in the form of a teardrop and ran down his gnarled trunk.
"Oh, indeed! And did you expect they would put lights upon you so your ugliness would stand out even more?" mocked the fir.
"I guess you're right," replied the old tree in a sad voice. "If there were only somewhere I could hide until after the celebrations are over, but here I stand, the only ugly thing among all this beauty. If they would only come and chop me down," he sighed sorrowfully.
"Well, I don't wish you any ill will," replied the fir, "but you are an eyesore. Perhaps it would be better for us all if they came and chopped you down." Once again he stretched his lovely thick branches. "You might try to hang onto those three small leaves you still have. At least you wouldn't be completely bare."
"Oh, I've tried so hard," cried the old tree. "Each fall I say to myself, 'this year I won't give up a single leaf, no matter what the cause,' but someone always comes along who seems to need them more than I do," and he sighed once again.
"I told you not to give so many to that dirty little paper boy," said the fir. "Why, you even lowered your branches a little so that he could reach them. You can't say I didn't warn you."
"Yes," the old tree replied. "but they made him so happy. I heard him say he would pick some for his invalid mother."
"Oh, they all had good causes," mocked the fir. "That young girl, for instance, colored leaves for her party indeed! They were your leaves!"
"She took a lot, didn't she?" said the old tree, and he seemed to smile.
Just then a cold wind blew down the path and a tiny brown bird fell to the ground at the foot of the old tree and lay there shivering, too cold to lift his wings. The old tree looked down in pity and quickly let go of his last three leaves. The golden leaves fluttered down and settled softly over the shivering little bird, and it lay there quietly under the warmth of them.
"Now you've done it" scolded the fir. You've given away every single leaf! Christmas morning you'll make our path the ugliest sight in the whole city."
The old tree said nothing. Instead he stretched out his branches to gather what snowflakes he could so they wouldn't fall on the tiny bird. The young fir turned away in disgust, and it was then he noticed a painter, sitting quietly a few feet from the path, intent upon his brushes and canvas.
The fir turned back to the old tree and said in a haughty voice, "At least keep those bare branches as far away from me as possible. I'm being painted and I don?t want you to mar the background."
"I'll try," replied the old tree. And he raised his branches as high as possible. It was almost dark when the painter picked up his easel and left. The little fir was tired and cross from all his preening and posing.
Christmas morning he awoke late, and as he proudly shook away the snow from his lovely branches, he was amazed to see a huge crowd of people surrounding the old tree, ah-ing and oh-ing as they stood back and gazed upward. Even those hurrying along the path had to stop for a moment to sigh before they went on.
"Whatever could it be?" thought the haughty fir, and he looked up to see if perhaps the top of the old tree had broken off during the night.
Just then a paper blew from the hands of an enraptured newsboy and sailed straight into the young fir. The fir gasped in amazement, for there on the front page was a picture of the painter holding his painting of a great white tree whose leafless branches, laden with snow, stretched upward into the sky. Down below lay a tiny brown bird almost covered by three golden leaves. And beneath the picture were the words, "The most beautiful thing is that which has given all."
The young fir quietly bowed its head beneath the great beauty of the humble old tree.
Well, time for me to be off. I hope everyone is getting in some stitching time during the holidays. And from my family to yours, we wish you happy holidays and may you know only joy in the coming new year!
Happy stitching! :)

Uno Mas (One More)
Some time ago, Stitchers' Village announced that they were having a 'fabric orphan' sale on Picture This Plus fabrics. These are quarter cuts (approximately18″ x 27″) and, through no fault of their own, do not match any of the PTP color categories, so they are not a color that is in the Picture This Plus line. This makes them one of a kind pieces of fabric. I managed to snag this piece at a very good price and I just love it.
I decided that it needed a monochrome design in a white or off white silk. I then found a wonderful design by Dany Chevallier of Danybrod and knew this was going to be my last project of the year. It is stitching up quite quickly and easily. Gotta love projects like that! :)
At any rate, on with the show:

Merry One Finish
This latest project is another one that I have wanted to do for a very long time. I had to wait to see if it was going to become available as a stand alone chart, as this was a former club piece. I am not a huge fan of clubs, because of the expense and hassle of them. I would rather just purchase a chart outright and then stitch the design with the materials of my own choosing. A big case in point is this latest project of mine.
I purchased this piece some time ago and have just now gotten around to stitching it. It is stitching up quite quickly, which gives me hope that I will make the goal of 30 projects stitched for the year. I am quite pleased with that thought, although, I do need to decide what the last project of the year will be. As of right now, I am leaning towards finishing Block Three of of Christmas at Hawk Run Hollow by Carriage House Samplings . That would be a good way to end the year, I think.

All Hallows' Eve Finish On 9/11
My latest finish came about today as I have managed to misjudge how much fabric was available to me. As consequence, only the middle portion of this project was stitched. I did not feel like stitching the alphabet, as it was over one. I'd like to say that it is because I did not feel like stitching over one, however, it's really just sheer laziness on my part.
Well, at any rate, here is my only finish thus far in the month of September 2017:
I must go for now. I need to clean up my stitching area and figure out what to stitch next. I hope everyone is having a great week so far.
